The $108-million Oceanex ship Connaigra is to be taken out of service again, the second time the cargo vessel has had to undergo repairs since it’s arrival in St. John’s in October last year.

A notice on the Oceanex website says the vessel recently experienced a systems malfunction similar to the one last fall. That malfunction resulted in the ship being kept in Boston while repairs were done on its main propeller hub system.

The website now says the Oceanex Connaigra will be returning to dry dock as a precautionary measure after a final trip from Montreal to St. John’s on April 18.

A company plan to reinstate the vessel Oceanex Cabot to its former Montreal Tuesday sailing as of April 22 and returning the Oceanex Avalon to its former Montreal Friday sailing as of April 25 will allow the company to keep its regular scheduled service between Montreal and St. John’s.

There’s no word yet on how long the Oceanex Connaigra will be out.
