Megan Joy is a spirited young entrepreneur from Stephenville Crossing who earns her profit by hand-crafting ornaments, jewelry and personalized treasures from polymer clay. Megan is the owner and operator of Treasures by Megan and has been availing of Youth Ventures since early June of this year.

Megan has been making products with her clay since she received her kit for a gift two Christmases ago. Her family immediately noticed her talent and encouraged her to start making ornaments to sell amongst each other. Very soon after, Megan realized she could be making these products to sell locally, and has been doing so ever since. Some of Megan’s most popular items are her personalized wine glass charms, her photo ornaments and her seasonal earring sets, which include a pair for each of the major holidays throughout the year.

Megan has attended several community events in the Stephenville area, including the Feather and Folk Festival’s Family Fun Day and Canada Day — both held at the Lion’s Club in Stephenville.

Megan plans to continue her business after the Youth Ventures program finishes for the summer, since last Christmas was her busiest time of year. Megan has already started preparations for this year’s Christmas rush and looks forward to the orders she will receive.

When asked about her favourite part of owning her own business, Megan replied, “Making money while doing something that I enjoy doing. I get to be creative and experiment with new ideas which I find really fun.”

Megan also said for any young entrepreneur thinking about starting their own business, “Just go for it. You never know how successful your business idea could be.”

Aside from attending community events and craft sales, Megan also takes custom orders for her products and can be reached at Megan also has a business Facebook page — Treasures by Megan.
