Carbonear man suspected of alleged arson now facing drug trafficking, firearm charges as well

CARBONEAR, N.L. – The execution of search warrants on a vehicle by the RCMP on June 29 has resulted in numerous charges against Paul Hanlon of Carbonear.

During the search, police found marijuana, a prohibited firearm and ammunition, according to a RCMP release.

The RCMP’s federal serious and organized crime unit assisted officers from the Harbour Grace detachment in carrying out the search warrants.

Hanlon, 51, is being charged with allegedly possessing a prohibited firearm, possessing a weapon dangerous to the public peace, possessing a firearm without a licence, possessing a firearm and ammunition while prohibited, possessing marijuana for the purpose of trafficking as well as two counts of failure to comply with a recognizance.

He is also facing charges of arson in connection with an incident that is alleged to have occurred in Carbonear on March 14, 2017.

Hanlon is being held in custody and will appear in Harbour Grace Provincial Court today, July 3.
