With water levels in the Town of Deer Lake rising, officials are asking residents in some areas to be ready for a possible evacuation.
In a post on the town’s website, the town is asking residents of seven areas to be packed and ready to go should their homes become endangered by the high water levels.
Those areas are:
• Pinetree Drive
• Riverside Drive
• Oakes Road
• Reginald Drive
• Tower Road
• Moss’s Lane
• Bailey’s Avenue
The rainstorm that hit Deer Lake and the rest of the region cause a significant amount of snowmelt. Aside from directly contributing to the rise in levels of the Upper Humber River, a large amount of ice and debris was sent downstream.
Any residents who are on medication or have any devices that play a role in their health are asked to pack those items as well.
Riverbank Road is being restricted to local traffic only. A temporary route is being set out at the end of the road and connects it to Tiffany Avenue.
The town is asking residents check the town’ website or Facebook page for additional updates. The town’s emergency line is also available at 635-2451.
If the evacuation order is given, Deer Lake will let people in the affected areas know with door-to-door notification.
