Porter Airlines touches down in Stephenville

Flight attendant pleased to visit more with family

For Emma Randell, a flight attendant with Porter Airlines, landing in Stephenville on Saturday evening was a breath of fresh air.

The Corner Brook native, who was part of the flight crew on the inaugural flight into Stephenville Airport that originated in Toronto with a a stop in Halifax, said it was a lovely flight.

“It’s going to be so much easier now that were coming into Stephenville to visit home with family,” she said.

Randell, who has been a flight attendant with Porter Airlines for three years, said she doesn’t even mind her visits will be be short as the flight lands on Saturday evening and leaves again Sunday morning.

Meanwhile, passenger Trevor Stagg was thrilled with the flight to Stephenville. He came with family after catching the plane in Halifax and said it was a beautiful flight.

“Even in Halifax airport it was like a class reunion as I met four people I grew up with who were coming on the same flight. Everyone was so excited to get in,” he said.

Stagg said the flight was very smooth and the aircraft has wide seats and the flight attendants very accommodating. He said the service was fantastic.

“This is a perfect little plane for this run,” he said.

Stagg was so excited the new flight he immediately booked 10 tickets for his family this summer. He said he was pleased with the price of the flight that allows him to land in Stephenville.

Andrew Pierce, vice-president of network planning and reporting with Porter Airlines, reflected back to one of the first calls from the Stephenville Airport Corporation in 2006.

He said he was proud to now be at the Stephenville Airport for the inaugural flight and said there was a great network of people who wanted Porter to fly into Stephenville.

Pierce said so far the highest bookings are to and from Halifax, but there are other people who are connecting to other points.

He said the Porter staff that came to help set up in Stephenville, who travel to many airports for the set-up process, thoroughly enjoyed the hospitality they received in Stephenville.
