If you’re looking for a job with the best potential income, you could do a lot worse than becoming a manager in an engineering firm. At a national average of $58.30 per hour – that works out to more than $120,000 annually — the guys with the white hats and pockets full of pencils stand atop the nation’s wage earners according to numbers released by Statistics Canada June 15.

Trade that white hat for a white apron, and your spending power takes a pretty good hit. Food service managers average $18.10 per hour. Still, as a broad category, the Labour Force Survey found average management wages jumped 5.7 per cent from 2015 to 2016.
