The proverbial dog days of summer are here and western Newfoundland has been experiencing a heat wave to boot. With hot daytime temperatures and warm nights, many people have been having a tough time keeping cool while going about their daily activities or even when just trying to get some sleep.

Question: What do you do to beat the summertime heat?

Kevin Hollahan

- Irishtown-Summerside

We just turn on the air-conditioning in the house. We have a fire pit in the yard and hang out there with the grandkids in the evening.

We don’t turn on the oven when it gets this hot and eats salads and colder foods or use the Actifry when we need to cook something.

Dave Young

- Corner Brook

I have all the fans on full blast in the house and every window open. It’s a good time to barbecue a lot instead of cooking, and enjoy a few cold beers.

Harold Janes

- Deer Lake

I just try to stay inside, turn the fan on and drink lots of fluids. The best thing to do is not to go out in the sun unless you really have to.

Chris Walters

- Corner Brook

I’d like to be sitting on my deck with a cold refreshment, but I’ve got to finish building it first. Hopefully, it will still be hot when I get it done.

Jim Jenkins

I drink lots of water and try to spend more time in cooler places, like the basement. We keep our windows open all night and use the ceiling fans a lot.
