The Deer Lake Regional Airport hit new highs this summer with record traffic numbers reported for both July and August.

The details of the passenger numbers for the peak summer tourism period were released today at the annual general meeting of the Western Newfoundland Destination Management Organization (DMO) — Go Western Newfoundland. Jamie Schwartz, CEO of the Deer Lake Regional Airport, presented the monthly statistics to the organization’s membership and highlighted air service enhancements that could support further tourism growth and development in the region.

The number of passengers in each month of July and August surpassed the 40,000-mark for the first time in the history of the airport, said a prepared release.

A total of 40,050 passengers went through the airport in July and 40,922 passed through in August. The month of August also set a new all-time monthly record, exceeding the previous record of 39,946 passengers established in August of last year.

The Deer Lake Regional Airport provides regular domestic and charter passenger services with several airlines including Air Canada, Air Canada Express, Canadian North, Provincial Airlines, Sunwing and WestJet.
