Sightings of a large, black cat on the west continued this week,
Just weeks after the reported sighting of what some are calling a black panther in Deer Lake, there has been another report of a similar creature near the airport in a post to the town’s Facebook page.
According to the airport authority, two people were using the airport service road Thursday morning when they encountered a large, black cat near the entrance of the airport.
The pair stopped their vehicle and attempted to get a photograph of the animal but another vehicle passed by and scared the animal off.
The incident has been reported to the wildlife division of the Department of Fisheries and Land Resources.
Deer Lake is urging its residents to be “extremely careful, particularly when walking on the trail system.”
This latest sighting comes a couple of weeks after a pair of people reported seeing a similar animal on Gilde Brook Road in Deer Lake.
