The event was organized by the Corner Brook Downtown Business Association and the Royal Newfoundland Constabulary in response to a rash of break-ins in the downtown core in recent months.
It drew representatives from several businesses in the area, including the owner of Christopher’s Menswear on Broadway.
Chris Rogers was impressed with the turnout and the information made available by the association, the police and his fellow business owners.
“We’re just trying to help each other out,” said Rogers.
The discussion included businesses working together to share surveillance footage from their respective security cameras to help identify suspects. The topic also extended beyond break-ins to the common problem of shoplifting during open business hours.
“We’ve all had different scenarios and experiences, so it was great to have everyone together to talk about it,” said Rogers.
Jim Parsons, chairman of the Downtown Business Association, was happy with how things went.
“It was a good chance for businesses to share their stories and to vent a little bit about the problems they have been having,” he said.
