She trains hard. She pushes herself to the limit. She encourages others to embrace sport and physical activity as a way of life.

She has inspired others to chase their dreams.

Her efforts haven’t gone unnoticed and that brings a smile to her face.

Roxon, a 23-year-old Kippens native, was pleased to find out she was on the Canadian Association for the Advancement of Women and Sport and Physical Activity’s 2016 Most Influential Women List in the athlete category.

She was quite surprised to find her name spoken in the same breath as the eventual winner Jen Kish of Canada’s Women’s Seven Rugby Team, Olympian trampoline gymnast Rose MacLennan and national women’s soccer team member Christine Sinclair.

“It’s exciting that I get to be part of such an amazing list with all these other women across the country who are pretty awesome in what they do and where they are,” Roxon said Thursday after a workout at the swimming pool. “I’m pretty honoured to be part of that list.”

This year’s Most Influential Women List shines a spotlight on the incredible leadership that women bring to sport.

Updates to the format in 2016 produced a novel take on this annual tradition, enabling CAAWS to celebrate, promote and encourage female leadership in new ways through the Most Influential Women List.

With the goal of expanding the reach of the initiative, CAAWS introduced new categories, broadened its definition of influence to showcase leadership at different levels in the system, and added a special Award feature to the List, highlighting one woman in each category who is felt to reflect the spirit of the Most Influential Women initiative, as voted by an external selection panel.

Roxon is proud to know she has been an influence on other athletes and she has a message for any female who wants to pursue excellence in a certain aspect of their life.

“Definitely to dream big and that anything is possible if you put your mind to it. No matter where you’re from you can achieve anything you want in life,” Roxon said.
