A fast-moving low pressure system will bring a wintry mix of precipitation to the island portion of Newfoundland and Labrador on Sunday, followed by a potential snow and rain storm Christmas Day, according to Environment Canada.
Precipitation is expected to begin as snow across the Island during the early morning hours Sunday before transitioning to freezing rain and finally to rain by mid-morning, the special weather statement says.
Although most of precipitation will have fallen by the afternoon, rainfall amounts could exceed warning criteria in a few short hours, especially along the south coast, Environment Canada said.
Another intense storm is expected to follow closely on its heels, bringing potentially significant snow, rain and wind across Newfoundland on Monday night.
Though this storm is still several days away, meteorologists are watching it closely, the national weather forecaster said.
