Nalcor will be locking the gates to its new transmission line access road on the Northern Peninsula on Friday.

The Crown corporation confirmed the date in a statement posted on its Muskrat Falls Project website and Facebook page Wednesday morning.

The access road closure will come one day before the start of bow hunting season in the area. Nalcor was required, as a condition of the transmission line project being released from environmental assessment, to remove or restrict access on newly created roads deemed to impact outfitting business operations by allowing public access.
By installing gates and locking them during the hunting season, Nalcor said the area will return to having the same access that had been in place prior to the construction of the transmission project.
Gates have been installed on the new access road in the north, near Brian’s Pond, and in the south, near Eagle Mountain River. The gates will restrict vehicle and ATV access during a portion of the year only and the general public will have open access for the summer when snow conditions permit the gates to be re-opened.

This is currently the only access restriction that has been placed on the access roads that were created by Nalcor to run along the new 1,100-kilometre transmission line.
