Anne Marie Coleman says everything is falling into place for the celebration of Corner Brook’s 45th winter carnival because of the dedicated people who step forward to make it happen each year.

Friday afternoon at city hall, Mayor Charles Pender purchased the first 2016 carnival button from Coleman, chair of the carnival committe, and button chairperson Vicki Russell.

“We have an extremely, strong volunteer base and they are probably one of the best bunch of volunteers you could ever have around you to support you to get you through a project, and they work tirelessly,” Coleman said.

Pender is excited about celebrating another carnival as the city finds itself busy planning a beehive of activity for Corner Brook’s 60th anniversary in 2016.

“It’s always a great time. It will help us get over the winter blues and blahs,” Pender said. “Get out and have some fun and meet with our friends, and enjoy winter, and when it’s over winter is almost over.”

The west coast looked pretty green for a few weeks, but there’s been a dumping of snow lately, and that has a lot of people smiling. Coleman believes there shouldn’t be any concern about the weather cooperating, despite the late start to winter.

“Mother Nature never fails us,” Coleman said. “We always have lots of snow. I don’t worry about that.”
