Peddle has been president of the board since March 2016. He took over when former president Chris Noseworthy resigned. Peddle retained the position when the board held its annual general meeting in early July.
Peddle issued a press release announcing his resignation Friday, effective the end of the business day.
Peddle said he fell into the position unexpectedly at a time when the organization was going through some turmoil.
“(I) did what I could along with the team that was there to try and rebuild it.”
Since the annual meeting the new board has met a few times and when Peddle took a step back and looked at it he felt the organization was in a good place.
“It is revitalized, running fairly smoothly and the new board of directors we have in place are very competent.”
So he’s not worried about leaving as the board has some things in the development stage that will strengthen and grow the organization.
He said the board of a trade is a demanding role.
Peddle has spent his adult life volunteering and being involved with community-based groups, including the board of trade, Crime Stoppers and the Corner Brook Stream Development Corporation.
He’s not the type to sit around idly, so when asked if his name will be the on the ballot come Sept. 26 he said: “I am certain that I’ll be involved in something soon, whether or not it’s council I honestly don’t know right now. It is a consideration.”
Peddle said he is not involved with any other candidate in any capacity.
He said he’ll take the weekend to relax a bit and consider his work-life balance, his workload as executive director of ACAP-Humber Arm and commitments to other organizations he’s still involved with, including Western Health and the Deer Lake Regional Airport.
