Stephenville Winter Carnival 2018 got off in fine style on Thursday evening with a large crowd of marchers in a parade that went from Coleman’s Food Centre parking lot to the Stephenville Lions Club.

A number of organizations in the town were represented in the parade that had emergency vehicles at the front and the rear.

Following the parade at the Lions Club there was speeches by dignitaries, the singing of the national anthem and lighting of the carnival torch by Rosie Verma, who was named Citizen-of-the-Year 2016 at a banquet in the spring of 2017.

The large crowd on hand was entertained by the White Wolf Spirit Drum Group and hot dogs and cake was served.

Carnival events continue Friday through Sunday.
