Western Regional Hospital Foundation to spend $533,500 on new equipment

The Western Regional Hospital Foundation is looking to raise $533,500 for the purchase of new equipment for Western Health.

The Western Regional Hospital Foundation launched its 2017-2018 Case for Support at Western Memorial Regional Hospital in Corner Brook on Wednesday. The foundation will need $533,500 to purchase equipment identified in the project that will improve current equipment and add new innovative technology to several departments. Radiologists Dr. Jennifer Lombard and Dr. Gavin White were at the launch to talk about how some of the equipment will improve patient care and diagnostics.

The foundation launched its 2017-2018 Case for Support campaign at Western Memorial Regional Hospital in Corner Brook on Wednesday morning.

The equipment the foundation plans to purchase will improve current equipment and add new innovative technology to the medical imaging, maternal newborn, ophthalmology, physiotherapy and respiratory therapy departments of Western Health.

The equipment includes:

• Barco 12 MP monitors and workstations for breast screening and early cancer detection;

• General ultrasounds to help diagnose causes of pain, swelling and infection within the body and to examine babies in pregnant women;

• Wireless fetal monitors to track babies’ heart rates and monitor high-risk pregnancies;

• IOL Master for fast, accurate measurements of multiple areas of the eye for cataract surgery;

• A T5XR NuStep Recumbent Cross Trainer for invaluable rehabilitation in physical therapy for orthopedics, geriatrics, neurology, cardiovascular and pulmonary disciplines;

• E70 CoughAssist for a non-invasive method to help keep airways clear longer, reducing occurrence of respiratory infections and improving the quality of life for people with ALS, MS, quadriplegia and more.
