The Town of Grand Falls-Windsor, in partnership with Grand Toyota and the Newfoundland and Labrador Culinary Team lead Chef (and Chopped Chef Canada winner) Roary Macpherson, will host the largest food day festival of its kind in Newfoundland and Labrador at the Joe Byrne Stadium Aug. 5, 2017.
“The Grand Toyota Perfectly Centred Culinary Festival will see some of the top chefs in Canada, including John Higgins and Anne Yarymowich of Food Network and our own Roger Andrews and Jeremy Charles,” stated a town webpage dedicated to the event.
“Saturday (Food Day Canada celebrations) will be hosted by a selection of Canada’s top chefs and 11 of NL’s top chefs for a food experience featuring locally sourced food from the land and water,” according to the post. “The event will feature 9 separate culinary stations as well as some entertainment.”
A limited number of tickets will be available to purchase through Eventbrite as well at the town hall.
“What a party it’s going to be,” Macpherson said, addressing the group gathered at council chambers for the announcement via video.
“You’re not going to want to miss this event.”
"When (the town) approached on the sponsorship opportunity for this this, I jumped it,” said Jason Thistle of Grand Toyota. “I really want to thank (the recreation department) for their thinking outside the box and really putting something together that you wouldn’t expect to see in Grand Falls-Windsor. This is the kind of event that you would expect to see in St. John’s or Halifax but it’s happening right here….”
“I really want to thank them for being so creative and bringing new concepts to Grand Falls-Windsor.”
Noting the festival would be a “great carry over event from the Salmon Festival,” Thistle announced Shaun Majumder would be the emcee.
“I think it’s going to be a great night,” he said. “I mean, who doesn’t like great food, great wine and a good hearty belly laugh.”
