Jean Skanes (nee Gillard)

Corner Brook, NL It is with heavy hearts that the family of the late Jean Skanes (nee Gillard) announce her passing at the Palliative Care Unit of the Western Memorial Regional Hospital surrounded by her loving family, on Monday, March 5, 2018 in her 91st year. She leaves to mourn with loving memories, her four children Brenda Bray of Grimsby, Ontario, Allan Skanes (Dianne) of Corner Brook, Beverley Skanes (David McLennon) of St. John’s, and Elizabeth Skanes (Kent Jingfors) of Nanoose Bay, B.C., and her daughter-in-law Roberta Skanes of Boom Siding. Also left to mourn, her seven grandchildren Michelle Skanes, Tonya Skanes (Sergio Gomez), Darren Bray (Leng), Philip Skanes (Rebecca), Katherine Hearn (Christopher), Sam Jingfors and Sarah Jingfors, as well as her three step-grandchildren Julie McLennon (Jason Sharpe), Craig McLennon (Klaudia) and Shane McLennon (Kayla); fifteen great-grandchildren – all of whom brought her such great happiness. She also leaves her two sisters Minnie Bonnell and Edith Penney; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and friends. Jean was predeceased by her parents Allan (Clara) Gillard, mother and father-in-law Reginald (Edith) Skanes; husband Eric; son Brian; sister Sandra Clarke; sisters and brothers-in-law Gwen Skanes, Jack (Diana) Osmond, Mary Skanes, E. Jean Skanes, Aubrey Bonnell, Clyde Penney and David Clarke. Visitations will take place at Fillatre’s Funeral Home, 4 St. Mark’s Avenue on Wednesday, March 7, 2018 from the hours of 2-4 and 7-9. Funeral service will take place from St. John the Evangelist Cathedral on Thursday, March 8, 2018 at 2 PM with The Most Reverend Percy D. Coffin officiating. Interment to follow at Mount Patricia Cemetery. As expressions of sympathy, donations may be made to the Parkinson’s Society or to a charity of one’s choice. The family sincerely thank the staff of Lohnes Complex, the staff of Western Memorial Regional Hospital and Dr. B. Wadhwa for the supportive care provided to Jean.
