Upon returning from military service, Anne Gosse sought to help veterans and many others through her tenure at The Royal Canadian Legion, Branch #3, Deer Lake. She served in numerous rolls on the executive including as branch president (the first female to do so). It was during this time she personally donated funds for the purchase of band and ceremonial equipment for Royal Cdn. Sea Cadet Corps #73 Newfoundland.
Anne was a very private person who was more comfortable giving rather than receiving from others. It was her desire to continue volunteering which led to her efforts on behalf of the Canadian Red Cross, the Salvation Army Christmas Kettle Drive, the Canadian Cancer Society, the school breakfast program, just to name a few.
On an individual level, many seniors were provided with homemade peanut brittle and sweets during Christmas. For others who were alone and overwhelmed she stood at their side offering help if needed. Just how many lives she touched by her efforts we will never know.
Deer Lake has lost a tireless volunteer who sought to make her community a better place. She epitomized the volunteer spirit by seeking to help both the individual and the community at large. Much of this was done while dealing with her numerous health issues.
Our community is a better place through the volunteer efforts of Anne Gosse and others. I am in awe of the volume of her charitable work and also in the friendships she inspired in others who stood at her side through her journey.
