Host Stephenville falls in a pair of games at Atom I tournament

The host Stephenville Jets didn’t get off to the start they would have liked at the Steele Hotels Provincial Atom I Hockey Tournament at the Stephenville Dome on Thursday.

The Jets dropped a pair of games, the latter of the two an 8-1 decision to the Torngat Mountains Innu Hawks.

Tiger Rich (2), Caleb Obed (2), Tristen Denniston (2), Justice Piwas and Samuel Flower all recorded goals for the victors.

Tristan Bullen put up the only marker for the Jets.

In earlier play, the Jets were edged 3-2 by the Straits Rifters.

Dustin Genge struck for a pair in the win, with Ramsay Parrill recording the other goal.

Tristan Bullen and Ryan MacIsaac found the back of the net in the losing effort.

The following are summaries of other Atom I games on Thursday:

Bay D’Espoir 4, Botwood 4

Marcus Hoskins scored two, while Mark Willcott and Ryan Harding added single goals for Bay D’Espoir.

Joshua Newhook had two for Botwood, with Dante Bellissimo and Tyson Newhook also scoring.

Botwood 6, Straits 2

Joshua Newhook and Tyson Newhook both produced a pair in the win, with Jaiden Hibbs and Dante Bellissimo each scoring once.

Dustin Genge and Renee Genge did the damage for the losing side.

Tournament action resumes 10 a.m. today.
