Allen brothers honoured at minor hockey banquet

CORNER BROOK The second of two Corner Brook Minor Hockey Association year-end banquets went ahead Wednesday night at the Pepsi Centre and turned out to be a family affair of sorts. Honouring players in the peewee, bantam, midget and female divisions, the banquet recognized brothers Lucas and Scott Allen, sons of Craig and Beverly Allen of Corner Brook, for their contributions and dedication towards the midget and peewee divisions, respectively. Lucas, 17, was named as winner of the Technical Director Award, usually given to a player in his last year of minor hockey who displays a certain dedication and passion for the game.

He played on the Corner Brook Regional High School squad.

It feels good, he told The Western Star. There are tons of people in the midget division that could have gotten this award  I guess Im the lucky one that did.

Id just like to say thanks to all my teammates and coaches and everyone in the division, he added.

Scott, 12, was the recipient of the Harold Pike Memorial Award for the most dedicated player in the peewee division.

Pike died in May of 1998, while still serving as vice president of the association. His son Jamie presented the award.

This year was a lot of fun and I had a good time, Scott, who plays with the Western Toyota peewee team, said after the banquet. It was pretty unexpected for me to win the award, I think a lot of other people deserved it, but Im happy to get it.

Veteran player Jennifer Renouf was singled out as the first ever winner of the Fred Price Award for dedication to female hockey.

Price was a pioneer of female hockey and helped introduce the game into the Corner Brook Minor Hockey system.

The level of maturity, leadership and respect she brought to the bench has always been exceptional, female division vice-president Lee Pederson said of Renouf.
