That’s the opinion of Hockey Newfoundland Labrador president Jack Lee, who attended Tuesday night’s meeting at the civic centre.
“This is survival for the league,” he said during the meeting. “Some of the teams might not get that, but I do.”
Lee said he believes the Royals are already three or four steps ahead of most teams in that they have a booster club behind them that is dedicated to making sure there is a team on the ice.
But now, he said, is the top to get organized and get an executive in place.
“You don’t have a lot of time,” he said. “Before you know it, it’s September and we’re back into hockey season.”
He said he realizes the challenges the team has faced in recent seasons, particularly with attendance, but the opportunity still exists to engage with the community, especially the city’s minor hockey association and city council.
“To me the Royals are a community team,” he said. “This is important to the community of Corner Brook.
“Everyone needs to play a part.”
