PORT AUX BASQUES - Twin Town took a 3-2 lead into the final period of the Provincial Midget D Easter Minor Hockey Tournament at the Bruce II Arena in Port aux Basques Wednesday night.

Then the Northern Peninsula club ran into a hot hand.

Jeremy Nicholas of Twillingate completed his hat trick with two goal in the third period to lift his team to a 4-3 win and the rights to a victory lap.

Zack Lodge scored the other marker for Twillingate.

Joe Dobbin, Sidney Payne and Korey Spence provided the offence for Twin Town. The following are snapshots of the other games played Wednesday:

Port aux Basques 8, Placentia Intertown 2

The hometown team secured a bronze medal with an 8-2 victory over Placentia Intertown as Tyler Spencer registered a six-point outing with a natural hat trick highlighting his knack around the net.

Brady Harvey, Russell Hardy, Danny MacLean and Jay Street potted the other markers in the lopsided win. MacLean and Hardy also recorded a pair of assists.

Zack Greene and Chris Healey scored the goals for Placentia.

There were two fighting majors assessed to each team in the game.

Deer Lake 2, Twin Town 2

Andrew Hopkins and Andrew Strangemore both buried the biscuit for Deer Lake in this round-robin tie .

Dawn Tulk and David Gould were the goalscorers for the silver-medal winning squad.

Twillingate 8, Lake Melville 1

Josh Baggs and Josh Maye led the way with a pair of goals apiece, while Brock Wheeler, Jody Hicks, Nathan Hull and Jeremy Nicholas did the rest of the damage.

Ryan Billard was the lone goalscorer for Lake Melville.

Midget F

Brandon Elliot scored a hat trick for the host St. Anthony Midget F Polars as they cruised to a 7-1 win over the central's Beothic team in the showdown for gold.

The Polars were undefeated at The Olympia as hosts of the Midget F tournament.
In the final two round-robin games played Wednesday, Beothic secured its trip to the final with a 5-1 win over Fogo/Change Islands, while Baie Verte pummeled Straits 10-1.

In championships decided Wednesday, Labrador West won the Pee Wee B tournament on home ice with a 5-4 victory over Gander. At the Pee Wee D tournament in Mount Pearl, Mount Pearl grabbed the gold with a 6-4 win over Trinity Placentia.

In Gander, Marystown shaded the St. Anthony Pee Wee E Polars 2-1 to win the golden hardware. Meanwhile, in Baie Verte the hometown crew pummeled the Harbour Breton entry 9-1 to win the Pee Wee H tourney. At the Pee Wee J tournament in Twillingate the Conception Bay Regional Renegades blanked the Fogo/Change Islands team 9-0 in the championship game.

The Midget B and Midget E tournaments were both held in St. John's where the Mount Pearl team defeated the host club 4-2 in the Midget B championship game and the host club registered a 2-1 win over the Conception Bay Regional Renegades in the Midget E championship game.

Results from other provincial pee wee and midget tournaments weren't available as of press time.
