Western Kings begin season with 0-4 record at provincial AAA peewee kick-off tournament

It’s a road trip that’s best forgotten about.

The Western Kings have some work to do to keep up with the big guns in the provincial AAA peewee hockey league after losing a couple of lopsided games at the kick-off tournament in Bonavista over the weekend.

The Kings finished up with an 0-4 record after opening the season with a 14-2 loss at the hands of the St. John’s Hitmen at the Cabot Stadium.

Highlighted by an eight-goal second period, the Hitmen cruised to victory with Nolan Avery leading the charge with a three-goal performance.

Spencer Caines and Lucas Pittman scored for the Kings.

The Kings lost 17-0 to the TriComThunder in its second game, before losing 6-4 to the TriPen Ice and 12-1 to the Central IcePak to finish in the cellar.

Markus Spingle was the big gun for the Kings in the loss to the Ice with a two-goal outing, while Spencer Caines had a goal and two helpers and Ryder Penney scored the other goal in a losing cause.

Joshua Hann was the lone marksman for the Kings in the 12-1 loss to the IcePak.

The Kings will be looking to get into the win column this weekend when they clash with the Hitmen in a three-game series at the Southern Shore Arena with the first game slated for Friday and a doubleheader on Saturday in Mobile.
