Corner Brook Intermediate were the hosts of a five-team invitational Grade 9 girls basketball tournament over the weekend and won the championship with a narrow 46-45 victory over Beaconsfield Junior High of St. John’s.
Beaconsfield had finished atop the round robin standings with a 4-0 record, with CBI Grade 9 Black ending up in second with a 3-1 record, their only loss coming to Beaconsfield.
The championship game was the rematch and it lived up to the billing, with the game going back and forth.
Melissa Barker scored a game-high 13 points for CBI, with Alicia Osmond and Emma Doman both drained seven.
Brianna Fortune was named player of the game for CBI.
