Clancy’s Pub’s Greg Keats, back, comes out the winner in a battle for the header against Sheldon Butt of the Steers Insurance Curling Rangers during play Monday at the Wellington Street Sports Complex.

They may not have finished first, but they got the last laugh — for now.

Riding a two-goal performance from Dennis Bellows, the Steers Insurance Curling Rangers defeated Clancy’s Pub 3-2 in the Corner Brook Molson Senior Men’s Soccer League’s regular season finale at Wellington Street Sports Complex on Monday night.

The loss snaps the first-place pub club’s eight-game winning streak that had been ongoing since June.

Brad Burton picked up the other goal in the victory, while Nick Taylor earned the W in net.

Greg Keats and Logan McIsaac did the damage for the pub club, who were backstopped by John Finn.

The top three teams in the league — the pub club, Rangers and MacAverys Sports Bar Tactics FC — will now form Division A of the opening playoff round, where they will compete in a single round robin for elimination round re-seeding.

The fourth- and fifth-place teams — the West Side Monarchs and Investors Group Under-18s — comprise Division B and will lock horns in a two-game, total-goal series to determine the fourth seed in the elimination round.

Post-season action begins Wednesday night, as the Rangers take on the Tactics, while the Monarchs battle the U18s in the first of their two-game series.
