Gillis shines in Corner Brook women's soccer league win

A four-goal outburst from Janine Gillis on Monday evening helped power the Shamrocks to a 5-1 victory over Veitch Physiotherapy and Wellness in action from the Corner Brook Women’s Soccer League.

Sarah Rex also found the back of the net in the win at Wellington Street Sports Complex.

Emma Mugford replied for the physio crew.

Gillis scored the first two goals of the game, in the ninth and the 14th minutes, giving her side an early 2-0 lead, before Mugford made it 2-1 in the 59th.

From there, it was all Shamrocks, as Gillis struck for another two in the 62nd and 66th minutes to put the game out of reach.

Rex sealed the deal in the 84th minute.

Sara Young picked up the win in net.

On Sunday night, Jana Sigurdsson picked up the lone goal of the game in the 50th minute as Veitch Physiotherapy and Wellness blanked the Island Orthotics Curling Rangers 1-0.
