Scoring shortage keeps provincial team back at under-13 soccer championships


CORNER BROOK A lack of scoring punch made life miserable for Newfoundland and Labrador at the Atlantic Under-13 Soccer Championships.

The provincial Under-13 girls team managed to claim third spot with a 3-1 victory over New Brunswick in the bronze-medal showdown Sunday at Ambrose O’Reilly Memorial Field.

Kathlin Dgu, Alex Hayward and Brittany Rose scored for the Newfoudland and Labrador representatives.

Lauren Archibald supplied the marker for New Brunswick.

Meanwhile, the Newfoundland and Labrador Under-13 boys team had to settle for fourth spot after a 4-0 loss to New Brunswick in the bronze-medal contest Sunday at Ambrose O’Reilly Memorial Field.

MacLean Hawkins recorded the shutout for the New Brunswick squad.

The Newfoundland and Labrador Under-13 boys failed to score a goal in three round-robin losses before being blanked in the bronze-medal showdown.

The Newfoundland and Labrador Under-13 girls finished 0-3 in round-robin play and were outscored 9-1 by their opponents before snagging a bronze medal on the final day.

William Warren booted home two goals to lead Nova Scotia to a 4-0 win over P.E.I. in the gold-medal showdown in the Under-13 male bracket.

Jacob Bolton and Ryan Rhodenizer also scored for the winners, while Ryan Merlin recorded the clean sheet.

Meanwhile, Alexa MacLatchy-Gaudet and Alex Blades combined for the shutout as Nova Scotia shaded P.E.I. 2-0 to win the gold medal in the Under-13 female division.

Jack Creaser (2), Ben Coorringe, Ryan Rhodenicer and William Warren scored for Nova Scotia.

Ryan Merlin and Sam White shared the clean sheet.

 

New Brunswick 2,

Newfoundland and Labrador 0

Daniel Walker and Spencer Buck scored for the winners.

MacLean Hawkins recorded the shutout.

 

Nova Scotia 2, Prince Edward Island 1

Jacob Bolten and Matt Lingley supplied the goals for Nova Scotia.

Zack Visser responded for the islanders.

New Brunswick 2, Nova Scotia 1

David McPartland and Daniel Walker scored for New Brunswick.

Matt Lingley was the lone marksman for the Nova Scotia representatives.

 

Prince Edward Island 1,

Newfoundland and Labrador 0

Jordan Delong scored the only goal of the game to give P.E.I. the slim victory.

Pascale Hadiar scored two goals to lead the charge for Nova Scotia, while Alexa MacLatchy-Gaudet and Alex Blades shared the shutout.

New Brunswick 3,

Newfoundland and Labrador 1

Morgan Fitzgerald scored for the host Newfoundland and Labrador girls.

Kathyrn Magee, Sarah Lunney and Cassandra Morrison supplied the goals for New Brunswick.

 

Nova Scotia 2, Prince Edward Island 0

Olivia MacDonald and Pascale Hadiar dented the mesh for Nova Scotia. Alexa MacLatchy-Gaudet and Donica Larade shared the clean sheet.

 

Nova Scotia 8, New Brunswick 0

A. Trowbridge (2), Pascale Hadiar, Olivia MacDonald, C. Bearne, L. White, H. Fleet and D. Little supplied the offence in a well-balanced attack for the Nova Scotia representatives.

Alexa MacLatchy-Gaudet and Alex Blades shared the goose egg.

Emma Clarke scored the only goal of the game.
